49ers and Ravens Clinch Top Seeds in Resounding Regular Season Finale

There’s one more week left in the 2023 regular season, but we don’t need another to find out which teams will be the top seed in the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens both took first place in the NFC and AFC when the results were announced on Sunday.

San Francisco went 12-4 on the road over the Washington Commanders 27-10, but got a boost when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions 20-19 at home and the Arizona Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Eagles 35-31 on the road. If the Eagles did things at home, the 49ers would have to wait another week to claim the NFC and the No. 1 seed.

They should have beaten the Los Angeles Rams at home, but now they can avoid stress and optimize time wisely with rest. On the other hand, the Ravens only needed to beat the Miami Dolphins at home to secure it.

And boy did they ever. Baltimore, 13-3, beat now 11-5 Miami 56-19 to secure first place in the AFC. The Dolphins could have taken the contest to the final week if they survived it, but the offense looked woeful without Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Waddle while Lamar Jackson shredded his defense with five carries. Baltimore is at the Pittsburgh Steelers to close out the regular season.
