Deebo Samuel Nears Historic NFL Milestone

Deebo Samuel has one of the most unique skills not only in the current NFL, but in NFL history. He is close to joining a club that currently only has one Hall of Fame. Samuel had 48 receiving yards and 11 passing yards in the San Francisco 49ers’ Week 15 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

The performance pushed his career receiving yards to 4,017 and rushing to 954. As described by Niners Wire/USA Today’s Kyle Madson, Samuel can only match Hall of Famer Charley Taylor’s feat in Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

“If Samuel can rush for 46 yards and reach the 1,000-yard plateau Monday night against the Ravens, he will become the second player in NFL history to have at least 4,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards in his first five seasons with the 49ers.” Madson wrote.

“Hall of Famer Charley Taylor, who spent his entire career in Washington, also hit those two categories with 4,150 receiving yards and 1,416 rushing yards in his first five years.” Of particular note here is the fact that the 49ers didn’t start lining up Samuel permanently until 2021, his third NFL season.

In the 2019 and 2020 season, he had a total of only 22 positions. If Samuel could get there on Monday, he would have set a new season high for rushers. His season high came in Week 2 when he rushed for 38 yards against the Los Angeles Rams.
