Eagles Keeping Nick Sirianni as Head Coach for 2024 Season
The Philadelphia Eagles appear to have made a decision regarding head coach Nick Sirianni.Despite the team’s poor record in the 2023 season, it appears that the Eagles will bring Sirianni back as their head coach.Advice on Sirianni’s status provided by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
Russini told X on Wednesday that Sirianni and GM Howie Roseman are actively planning to bring new coordinators/coaches on staff.”Both Eagles GM Howie Roseman and HC Nick Sirianni have contacted available NFL coaches and coordinators and coaching agents around the league to evaluate potential coordinator candidates to join those coaches as they plan for the 2024 season.
” Russini reports on X.Roseman and Sirianni working together to improve the team’s training certainly seems to point to Sirianni’s return.Sirianni was the head coach of the Eagles for three seasons.
The team went 9-8 in the first year and lost in the Wild Card round in the playoffs. But they went 14-3 last season and went to the Super Bowl. This year, the Eagles started the season 10-1 before falling apart, losing six of their last seven games. The terrible finish led to media speculation – and some demanding – that the Eagles change their head coach.
That doesn’t seem to be happening. Finally, the Eagles may feel that losing both coordinators after their Super Bowl run weakened the team. Former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen became head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, while former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon became head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
The Eagles even changed the defensive backs coach late in the season, hoping that would help, but it didn’t seem to.During the Eagles’ playoff loss to the Bucs on Monday night, ESPN’s Troy Aikman pointed to turnovers as a big problem for Philly. Perhaps he echoed thoughts that Sirianni and/or Roseman shared with him..
