If the average Eagles fan thinks the team and offense have become predictable and stale, that certainly carries over to the pros. While the Eaglesand#039; Monday Night Football loss to the Seahawks, 49ers quarterback Christian McCaffrey joined the andquot;ManningCastandquot; ESPN coverage of the game with Peyton and Eli Manning. McCaffery is part of a San Francisco team that torched the Eagles a few weeks ago, when the All-Pro quarterback had 133 yards rushing and a touchdown in South Philadelphia.
Before one play of the second quarter, based on the alignment alone, McCaffery knew what game the Birds were playing and shouted it to the Manning brothers: andquot;Jalen Hurts leads the QB lottery. Tight end and pulls… dense head and deep so that the head covers the back andquot; McCaffery said. Although Hurts immediately met that play, it was actually a QB draw with Dallas Goedert pulling as a blocker. The elder Manning brother seemed to be in awe of McCaffery and the prophecy, andquot; but projections may be underestimating how fake this once-high-flying Eagles offense has become.
It’s reminiscent of the 2015 Eagles crash and fire where defenses screamed Chip Kelly’s limited playbook before the ball was even snapped. With fans#039; no longer focused on the pressed Sean Desai, all the wrath of the Delaware Valley falls on the shoulders of offensive coordinator and playmaker Brian Johnson. When the birds are stuck in the mud attacking the giants’ defense on Christmas Day, that rage will only continue.
