“Eagles Revamp Defense with Strategic Move: Matt Patricia Joins Coaching Ranks”

The Philadelphia Eagles are making a big shakeup to improve their poor defense. According to multiple reports, former Detroit Lions Eagles head coach Matt Patricia will take over at defensive end. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the move will not remove defensive coordinator Sean Desai from his position. Desai will continue as DC but move to the bus cabin with Patricia. Patricia joined the Eagles in the offseason after serving as the offensive line and offensive line coach for the New England Patriots in 2022. His official title is Senior Defense Assistant. Patricia previously served as the Pats’ defensive coordinator from 2012-2017. He was hired as the Lions’ new head coach in 2018, but was fired midway through his third stint. His head coaching record with Detroit was 13-29-1. The Eagles desperately need a spark on the defensive side of the ball. Despite an NFC-best 10-3 record, Philly ranks in the bottom half of the 2023 defensive rankings. They rank 22nd in yards per game (353.9 yards), while only three teams have allowed more touchdowns than the Eagles’ 39 TDs.
