The Golden State Warriors released their injury report for Saturday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns and Gary Payton II has been cleared to return. Payton hasn’t played since Jan. 2 after a left hamstring strain sidelined him for more than a month.

The Warriors released the official injury information on Payton on Tuesday, which read: and quot;Warriors guard Gary Payton II, who suffered a 2nd left strain on Jan. 2 against Orlando and missed the last 14 games, was recently re-evaluated . . A reevaluation showed that Payton was making good progress and began practicing with the team. His potential return to game action depends on his continued success. His status is listed as day-to-day.andquot; Payton is no longer day-to-day but has been upgraded to available, which is huge news for the Warriors.

Having made no moves at the deadline, Golden State is hoping Payton’s injury recovery and possibly Chris Paul will help continue the momentum built in recent games. An excellent defender, Payton should help Golden State’s defense, which has been bad all season — although Draymond Green remains very solid in the lineup. On Saturday, Payton will be back in the mix as the Warriors continue to hunt if he can get there..
