Jackson’s Brilliance Lifts Ravens to 33-19 Win Over 49ers
Lamar Jackson led the Baltimore Ravens past the San Francisco 49ers to a stunning 33-19 victory after scoring two touchdowns in an 18-second span in the third quarter at Leviand#039 Stadium in Santa Clara.
Kyle Hamilton and the Ravens defense picked off quarterback Brock Purdy on three of the first four possessions as the 49ers turned a 16-12 halftime lead into an overwhelming 30-12 lead. Purdy became the first 49ers quarterback to throw four interceptions in a game since Colin Kaepernick in 2015 and had 18 catches for 255 yards before leaving the field with a sprained left shoulder in the fourth quarter when Sam Darnold replaced him.
Jackson committed an intentional grounding when he tripped over a downed referee in the end zone and attempted a pass to give the 49ers their first points of the game. On a 10-and-10 at Baltimore’s 15, Purdy tried to force a pass to running back Deebo Samuel, who was tackled by Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton for the interception.
After Baltimore forced a punt on the opening drive of the second half, Jackson decided to drive, throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor. Williams injured his groin trying to tackle Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen after Purdyand’s fourth down interception.
Jackson immediately turned it into another score with a 9-yard TD pass to Zay Flowers to make it 30-12. Jackson threw for 252 yards, ran for 45 more and jumped Purdy into the spotlight. San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey set a franchise record with his eighth straight game with at least 100 yards passing. Darnold responded with a fourth-quarter touchdown for the 49ers when he replaced the injured Purdy, but by then it was too late.
Both teams continue at the top of their respective conferences. The Niners are in a three-way tie with Philadelphia and Detroit for the best record in the NFC and can still clinch first place and the first round by winning their final two games. The Ravens moved one game ahead of Miami for the best record in the AFC and could clinch first place next week with a win over the Dolphins.
