Jim Montgomery shows concern about Nikita Zadorov….

Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery recently expressed mixed feelings about defenseman Nikita Zadorov’s performance since joining the team. While acknowledging Zadorov’s physical presence and potential, Montgomery highlighted inconsistencies in his understanding of the Bruins’ defensive systems. He noted moments of solid adaptation but also instances where Zadorov seemed out of sync. This inconsistency has drawn scrutiny, particularly as Zadorov leads the NHL in minor penalties with 12 in 16 games.

Zadorov, signed to a six-year, $30 million contract, was brought in to enhance Boston’s physicality, especially after playoff struggles against aggressive forechecks. Despite criticism, his pairing with Charlie McAvoy has shown promise, boasting a strong expected goal percentage. However, his penalty issues and turnovers remain a challenge, raising questions about his fit and readiness for top-pair responsibilities.

The situation has sparked debate about accountability, with some suggesting that both Zadorov and the coaching staff share responsibility for his slow adjustment.
