McCaffrey Injured, 49ers Eye Rest for Playoffs
Christian McCaffrey left Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders with a calf injury. The 49ers shut out McCaffrey the rest of the game, and Elijah Mitchell scored a season-high. The head coach of the San Francisco 49ers had this to say about McCaffrey in his postgame press conference: “We think he’ll be fine.
I don’t know if he could go next week or not. We’ll have to find out tomorrow. He moved well on the touchline. I hope it’s not too bad. But tomorrow we will know more.” Shanahan didn’t think much of resting the starters because the 49ers clinched the No. 1 just seconds before he took the podium.
He said: “We’re trying to rest some guys. But you can’t rest everybody. It’s too hard. We have to complete the team without a doubt. We have a big training week ahead of us. We have many things that we need to improve.
And the only way to do that is to play football and practice football. We have a big Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. As the week progresses, make your list and we’ll decide what to do on Sunday.
” If the Niners can afford to rest a player, they will. A skeleton team is expected to start. McCaffrey told reporters after the game, “I thought it was a no-brainer and just made a smart move, not really knowing what was going to happen next week. I just didn’t want to go out and make it worse. There are certain things you can’t be stupid about.”
