Packers Face Defensive Coaching Shakeup Ahead of 2024 Season
The Green Bay Packers already have high expectations heading into 2024. After reaching the divisional round of the playoffs in Jordan Love’s first year, the floor is in its second year.
While the offense found its groove late in the season, showing they could put points on almost any team, the defense continued to sputter at times.After the season, the Packers decided to go in a different direction with their defensive coordinator, hiring former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley.
Now, however, there appears to be another defensive coaching vacancy. Montgomery joined Dom Capers’ staff in 2015 as a defensive assistant after eight years as an outside linebacker coach at the college level. In Mike Pettine’s first season as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator in 2018, he was promoted to the team’s defensive line coach. Joe Barry also named him the run game coordinator in 2022. Montgomery was the Packers’ longest-tenured coach.Montgomery is interviewing with the New England Patriots for a staff position in the near future, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
