Purdy Bounces Back: 49ers Seek Redemption Against Commanders

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy threw a career-high four interceptions in a 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night, a very poor performance from a quarterback who hasn’t caught much in his first 23 starts. Purdy was adamant in his postgame press conference that he felt he let the team down by playing one of the best teams in football on Monday night. andquot; Our team was ready to play, andquot; Purdy said. andquot; And when I make decisions like that…

it’s not fair to these guys. I have to understand it and understand it and make my team better.andquot; But for Purdy, it’s the big picture and what the team is trying to accomplish. On Monday night, it looked like the 49ers were the NFC’s likely favorite to reach the Super Bowl.

While that’s still coming off a tough loss to one of the best teams in the AFC, Purdy is seeing what and what’s next after the worst stats of his career. andquot;I have to ask myself, ‘Okay, who are you? What do you represent? Who are you when things are good?

Who are you when things don’t go your way?and#039;andquot; Purdy added. andquot; It’s easy to get high and think you’re the guy when things are going well, winning games and all that. And you don’t really see a lot of adversity in certain games and things, and that’s the reality of the NFL. andquot;Obviously, I have to look at myself in the mirror, look at the games that are ready to improve, make cleaner decisions, help my team score points, score goals and defend the ball.

And when things don’t go my way, I realize I can’t act. I have to be true to myself and be better, but I want to be the same man every day.andquot; Purdy and the 49ers return to action Sunday in Washington when they face the Commanders, looking to get back in the win column and stay on track to earn the NFC’s top seed.
