The 49ers got some help when the Philadelphia Eagles were upset at home by the Arizona Cardinals. San Francisco earned themselves a first-round bye as they took the #1 seed and did so behind a strong performance from Brock Purdy. It was a strong comeback game from Purdy, who was sacked four times in the loss to the Ravens.
The second-year quarterback threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns against Washington in a solid game with no turnovers. Purdy was excellent in his first full season as San Francisco’s QB1 and made franchise history with a win against Washington on NBC.
“Brock Purdy single-handedly holds the 49ers single-season passing yards record,” NBC tweeted. Purdy now has 4,280 passing yards in the 2023 NFL season, passing former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia, who had 4,278 yards in the 2020 NFL campaign. It looked like Purdy would need at least one more game to break the single-season franchise record, but he got plenty of help from Brandon Aiyuki, who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass in the fourth.
