Purdy’s MVP Dreams Fade as Jackson Dominates Race
Brock Purdy was the betting favorite to win the NFL MVP award in Week 16. Well, that seems to be a thing of the past now. Purdy had a miserable game when the 49ers played the Ravens last week. That was part of why the 49ers won in beatdown style.
The loss and performance at home against an elite team pushed Purdy down the winning MVP totem pole. Now it looks like Lamar Jackson has the best chance to win it, and even Christian McCaffrey, who should have gotten more credit for it.
However, there are still two games left in the regular season. A lot can change depending on who is the favorite or not. It is such a volatile time that it can be won week to week. So, can Purdy still win the NFL MVP award? I don’t think he will win.
To win it, he must lead the 49ers to first place, which means the 49ers must win the final two games of the regular season. This is the first step in keeping him alive. The next step is for Purdy to look good with those wins. He has to be one of the best players in those wins to reignite the NFL MVP. Both of those steps will put him in contention. However, that probably will not be enough.
It feels like Jackson has a strong lead right now, and so long as he doesnand#039;t play miserable in the last two games, he will most likely win it. The Ravens are able to clinch the No. 1 AFC playoff seed this week with a win, which will only give him more momentum at the award. MVP was always going to go to a player on a No. 1 seed team, and all that momentum resides with Jackson now.
He needs to have average performances and the Ravens will lose this week. Those scenarios don’t seem likely right now, so Purdy winning the NFL MVP award this year is out of the question.
