Former NFL Pro Bowl tight end Russ Francis was one of two people killed in a plane crash in upstate New York on Sunday, his family said on social media.

Lake Place News reported the crash at approximately 4:09 p.m. Sunday AOPA said the plane carrying the two men was a Cessna 177 Cardinal and that the plane “experienced a crisis after takeoff,” andquot; according to the statement.
The New England Patriots released a statement from team president and CEO Robert Kraft saying, “On behalf of the entire New England Patriots organization, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Russ Francis, who tragically passed away yesterday.”
Russ was a fan favorite throughout his playing career. He was dynamic on the court and a player with even more personality. He knew no boundaries, crossed boundaries and lived his life to the fullest.
