SAD NEW: 49ers Key player Almost Lost His Life…

Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning in Santa Clara, Calif., as an elevator subcontractor was killed while working on the San Francisco 49ers’ new Levi’s Stadium. The news comes from Lisa Fernandez, Bob Redell and Alan Waples of NBC Bay Area.

 

andquot;According to a preliminary report by Cal OSHA, the involved occupational safety regulator, the mechanic was standing on a ladder at the bottom of the elevator shaft when the counterweight of the elevator hit him from above. Sources identified the employee as 63-year-old Donald White. He was an employee of Schindler Elevator, a Swiss company headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, USA. Additional information about White was not immediately available.

 

The report includes a statement released by the 49ers regarding the incident: The 49ers organization was deeply saddened to hear the news at the construction site this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues affected by this tragedy. The 49ers family lost a teammate today.

While details of the tragic incident continue to be gathered, KRON 4 News reports that the now-deceased worker was at the bottom of the elevator shaft before another worker fell off the counterweight, accidentally killing the victim:
