Saints’ Kamara Sports Phillies Hat, Sparks Curiosity

The Philadelphia Phillies got some free media from one of the best players in football on Thursday Night Football. Before the TNF game between the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams, reporter Taylor Rooks conducted a nearly four-minute interview with Saints linebacker Alvin Kamara.

Kamara had a little surprise for Phillies fans – he wore a red Phillies hat while doing the interview. During the interview, he was never asked why he was wearing the hat, as Kamara is not from Philadelphia. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. But still, the hat was there, just a few weeks after Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper made his Sunday Night Football introduction when the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Dallas Cowboys. He has no visible ties to the team.

He attended Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga. and played football at Alabama, Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College and Tennessee. The Saints drafted him in the third round in 2017. But in the 2018 season, Kamara was a key factor in the Saints’ NFC divisional final victory over the Eagles. He rushed for 71 yards and caught four passes for 35 yards in the 20–14 victory.

The Saints lost to the Los Angeles Rams the following week in the NFC Championship Game. Kamara emerged as a franchise player for the Saints, especially in the post-Drew Brees era. Kamara was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2017, was named a second-team All-Pro twice (2017 and 2020) and is a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He shares the record for most rushing touchdowns in a game with six. While Kamara never had a 1,000-yard season, he amassed over 10,000 yards rushing and receiving in his eight-year NFL career.
